Robin Redesign

I chose to do a costume redesign for Robin. Obviously my version is based on the bird itself in color and design, giving him black eyes with broke white rings around them, and an overall gray body suit with an orange breast plate is the shape of a bird. This uniform would easily be recognizable as a silhouette, all black showing the white eye rings and orange bird.

My version no longer has a cape. Under his arm is built more like a glider suit.
Think Spiderman’s armpit webs or maybe more like Black Bolt’s costume.

This was made for the redesign contest for [link]
…and as an added benefit, Project rooftop just conveniently posted
that their latest Fan-Art Friday character is going to be Robin.

Beast: Project Rooftop’s Fan Art Friday

Project Rooftop, where cartoonists and illustrators redesign superhero costumes, has made a call for submissions for a segment called “Fan Art Friday.” I chose to go “classic” with a version of Beast that I grew up with from the 90’s cartoon. Rather than giving him a solid full body of blue hair, I took a cue from apes and thinned out the hair on his face, chest and stomach, and leaving his palms hair free. Throw in some trunks a little closer to his days without blue hair and you have my submission!

Batman may have the biggest wardrobe closet in all of superhero comics, but Marvel’s Beast seems to be the one that goes through the most transformation. With him recently evolving to a more ape-like look in the pages of All-New X-Men, we thought it time to celebrate the various incarnations of Dr. Henry McCoy in our next Fan-Art Friday.”

Character Chop Shop: The Walking Red

Just another piece I did for fun during the day.

For those of you who may be unaware, the people who wear red shirts in the original Star Trek series have a habit of being killed. This is their chance to come back.

CCS: The Future, Far Far Away…

I was watching Star Wars and as Luke was cruising back home in his land speeder, Marty McFly riding his stolen hover-board came to mind. I thought about what might happen if Marty and Luke met. Luke would be the guy with the awesome car while Marty only had his little board. #hovercomplex

Anyways, this was a quick sketch of that encounter. More of a color study than anything.

Character Chop Shop: Mayor Two-Face

So here is the last of this series for now: Mayor as Two Face.

Mayor already has two faces, so it was easy to see why I went this direction, but if he were to be Two-Face for Halloween, I think he would have to tear off half of his sad face and put it on his happy face. Give him a two sided suit and he’s good to go…

Character Chop Shop: Clayface Boogie

Today is Oogie Boogie as Clayface.

I figured if anyone were going to dress up as Clayface, they could make it easy on themselves by just dumping some mud over their body.
So I took this approach with Oogie and showed a little of his canvas body underneath that Georgia red clay.

Only one more to go for this series. I did think of alternates for each of these characters, but maybe those can just be a series of head-shots I do in a day.

Character Chop Shop: Finkelstein Freeze

Back to it. Today is Dr. Finkelstein as Mr. Freeze.

Enjoy!

Character Chop Shop: Poison Sally

To continue the Nightmare Before Christmas Batman villain theme, I give you Sally as Poison Ivy. Sally has a premonition from a flower and is stuffed with leaves, so it makes sense that she would be Poison Ivy for Halloween.

I was thinking of names to call this series… I think I’ll call it The Wrong Halloween. This stems from the Batman graphic novel, The Long Halloween, and in spirit of who these characters are and where they come from, I think it fits.

Character Chop Shop: Joker Jack

In my first day back into the chop shop, I bring you Jack Skellington, as the Joker.

After watching Nightmare before Christmas when it came on to Netflix, I started thinking about who these characters could “dress-up” as for Halloween. I found that quite a bit of them go well with Batman’s rogues gallery. I thought of Marvel versions too, but maybe those will be future sketches.
